Form and Use
1) We use BECAUSE to show the reason why someone does something.
Example: "He did the work quickly because he wanted to go home early".
2) The tense in the reason (because …) part of the sentence does not depend on the tense of the main activity.
Example: "John moved to another house because he wanted to live near Jane".
Here the tenses in both parts of the sentence are the same. But, in the sentence "John moved to another house because he wants to live near Jane" the tenses are different.
3) We use the simple past tense, if the reason is something that is past.
Example: "John wants to buy a new car because the old car broke down last week".
Here, the reason happened in the past. In the example, "John moved to another house because he wanted to live near Jane", we don't know if the reason is still true.
4) We use the present simple tense if the reason is still true.
Example:
"John moved to another house because he wants to live near Jane".
5) We use a tense for the future if the reason is something in the future.
Example:
"John is buying travelers' checks because he is going to travel round the world next month".
